THE CROWN (2016) TV SERIES REVIEW
The Crown, 2016 is a historical TV series about the reign of Queen
Elizabeth II. The series have been created and written by Peter Morgan and produced
by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television for Netflix. Until now, the
series contains three seasons with total of 60 episodes which makes it 10
episodes for each season.
The first season
of The Crown was released on November 4 2016 and series cover Queen Elizabeth’s
life from her younger years to her reign in the 21st century. As for
the second season, the original released was on December 8 2017 and the drama
continues with covering up the event of Suez Crisis in 1956 until the birth of
Prince Edward in 1964. While the third season on November 17 2019 covers the
event from 1964 to 1977 which started from the election of the Prime Minister,
Harold Wilson. The TV Series will be having its fourth and fifth season in
coming.
Based on The Crown
Season 2, the beginning of the series was covering the Suez crisis in 1956. In
the first two episodes, we can see how Queen Elizabeth (Claire Foy) deals with
the crisis and her family problems or perhaps the assumption that she made
towards her husband, Philip (Matt Smith). Also, we could see how the Prime
Minister, Anthony Eden (Jeremy Northam) take the responsibilities towards his
decision making during the Suez Crisis.
The
cinematography in this series, the production team has put a lot of effort and
the material or the product have been rated as the high rating tv series in
IMDb with the rate of 8.7/10 and 89% in Rotten Tomatoes. Everything about the
cinematography, either the camera movement, the story plot, the characters or
the setting in the series really fits with the high rate given. The story sets
the event in the 90th century, but Peter Morgan brilliantly sets the tone with
less colours and the technology like the telephone, or the broadcasting
equipment used really fits the story timeline accurately despite the ‘in the
making’ of the series takes place in today’s time as those equipment like the
typewriter, the black and white television and even the old telephone are
harder to find these days due to the improvement and the changing of the
technology.
As for the characters, Peter Morgan has
come up with the brilliant actor to play their role character accurately and
perfectly. Claire Foy as the Queen Elizabeth makes her looks calm and smart and
Matt Smith with his good and handsome look as the Queen’s husband, Philip. Both
play an important role to complete the series. With the series being serious with
the diplomatic and politician matters, the daughter and the son of the royal
couple, makes the story or scenes less heavy with their cute and charming looks
and acting.
Again, Peter Morgan did a brilliant job in his work with this TV
series. The Crown was set to be a historical drama series and it also suitable
for people or viewer in any age to watch. Plus, the series also may be found
helpful for those who are learning and love every single aspect or every single
thing about History. This is because, the accuracy of the event in the series
are almost the same.
What people have been told from the history book about the event,
now has been told back with the actions of the actors to make people understand
and have their point of view about the situation during the time it happened. With
hope that people can appreciate their rulers and the Queen after all the
hardships and the sacrifice to make the United Kingdom as the country as it is now.
Overall, the series are interesting although some of the scenes may
be a little bit slow. It is a recommend TV series for those who like historical
genre of any film or series as it can gives different point of view to learn. Those
who dislike historical film and series might have find the series are boring,
but it is still possible for them to enjoy the full series for its story or
maybe for their favorite actors.
